The radio module "Preon32" is a universal sensor and actuator platform for the development of sophisticated applications. It consists of a powerful 32-bit microcontroller, an RF transceiver with excellent RF characteristics for IEEE 802.15.4 compliant hardware and serial flash memory for measurement and configuration data. The design of the module with the SMD pads in LGA arrangement (English Land Grid Array) is ideal for fully automated assembly.
Multiple IO interfaces are available for connection to external peripherals such as CAN, I²C, SPI, USB and digital IO pins. Analog signals can be captured with the integrated analog to digital converters (ADC) with a high resolution of 12 bits and a possible sampling rate of up to 1 million samples per second.
The most innovative feature of the module is the possibility of developing applications in Java™. This is achieved through a custom virtual machine designed for embedded wireless modules. Java™ applications can be developed on a desktop PC, loaded onto the target device and executed inside the virtual machine. Access to the radio transceiver or other peripherals is enabled through a native interface.
